Message change it just to "check" the old one. Sure enough, it was fine, no gasket sealer covering the little pin (which goes on top) and then we replaced it with a brand new one. No change.

Also, you should never have to drill out the thermostat. There's big reasons not to as well (as Jack said below on a different level). Always keep it in tact and get a Nismo if anyone needs it to run cooler.

My problem is it wont flow back in...shouldn't be a thermostat problem realistically. Water pump maybe...as it could have too little power to pull it back (but we checked/changed that too...perfect). Oh well!
